Why a coil cord over a straight cable?

When it comes to an application that requires vertical adjustments, like a telescoping mobile trailer, a coil cord will quickly allow for those adjustments without adding any additional cable to get in the way.

Coil cords also have a high flex life and can handle the stress of repetitive torsional and rotational movement.

Additionally, they are aesthetically appealing and can create a more professional appearance.

Large Diameter Coil Cords

Northwire can build large diameter coil cords suitable for telescoping mobile applications.  The outside diameter (OD) of the coil can be adjusted per application and depends on the length of the coil cord and needs of the customer.  We have built custom cables with a coil size as large as 14 inches but can go even bigger!

Coil cords can be designed to go on the outside or inside of the telescoping mast.

Retracted vs. Extended Lengths 

Northwire can offer different retracted to extended ratios. Our standard ratio is 1:5. So, for example, if a cable is 5 feet when retracted, it can extend up to 25 feet. The extended length can vary depending on the retracted length and the OD of the coil.

Our max coil cord retracted length is 10 feet.

Jacket Materials

It is important to consider what materials are used for the jacket of a cable for outdoor environments.  That is why our industrial coil cords jacket materials include polyurethanes which have a great resistance to the elements as well as great coil memory.

Our industrial retractile coil cords are designed with industrial outdoor capabilities: water, UV, oil and chemical, and abrasion resistant.
