This presentation will introduce a novel ePGS (electrified planetary gear set) off-highway drivetrain architecture that is modular and scalable for a variety of powertrain configurations. It allows a straightforward transformation of an existing conventional powertrain to an electrified system (mild hybrid, full hybrid, PHEV, BEV) with minimal change in the overall drivetrain architecture. Modularity of the system is augmented by the possibility of integrating multiple (one, two or more) motors within the system. In addition, downsizing of engine/transmission, removal of launch elements and regeneration of electric energy is feasible. The presentation will illustrate multiple electrified operating modes of the system.
- Modular and scalable architecture for multiple electrified powertrains (mild hybrid, full hybrid, PHEV, BEV) for off-highway drivetrain architecture
- Downsizing of engines and transmission, including possible removal of launch/moving-off elements such as torque converter, primary clutches, etc
- Regeneration of electric energy is possible via braking or direct charging by engine, leading to overall reduction in carbon emissions
- Multimode operation of ePGS (electrified planetary gear set) architecture, resulting in highly efficient powertrain
- Single-, dual- or multi-motor configurations possible depending on the level of hybridization, product platform and application
